QUICK TOP 3 PLUMBING EMERGENCY TIPS
BLOCKED KITCHEN SINK
Whether you have a garbage disposal or not, your sink can easily become blocked with grease or food scraps.
If you have a garbage disposal, never put your hand down to clear what is blocking your sink!
Instead, turn off the power to the garbage disposal, and give us a call. If it is grease blocking your sink, try boiling a kettle and tipping the hot water down the drain to see if it will dissolve the grease and unblock the sink.
Otherwise, give us a call.
Our top tip: Preventions is better than cure – Never pour grease or oil down your sink!
LEAKING TOILET
We have all experienced a toilet that continually runs, even once the flush has finished.
Did you know this is a number one water waster?
Here are some quick things to check, which could be causing the issue:
- Firstly, check that the ball and flapper are completely closed.
- Next, see if the chain is too tight. If it is, loosen it.
- Lastly, inspect the water level to see if it is set higher than the overflow pipe. Adjust if needed. If this does not help, turn off the tap at the back of the toilet or at the mains outside your home. This will hold you over, until we can get there to repair it for you.
LEAKING OR BURST PIPE
If you are experiencing a leaking or burst pipe, immediately go and turn off the water supply to your home.
This can usually be found at the front of your property, along with your water meter.
Turn the tap off completely. Sometimes the tap may become hard to turn off from being in the same position for a length of time.
In this case, you may need to use multi grips or a spanner to help loosen the tap, or immediately give us a call.
We will see to your plumbing emergency in a timely manner.
